Halloween Parade tomorrow, October 30th
3rd - 5th will be from 2:45-3:10
K - 2nd will be from 3:15 -3:40
- Parents are to remain in their car
- Parents may decorate their cars, play music, roll down the windows, and wave but may not hand out or throw anything to the students
- If parents want to walk to the parade instead of driving, we ask that they remain on the opposite side of the road from the school
- Cars may not stop
- Cars may drive the parade route multiple times by exiting to Main Street via Willow Park Drive
- Parents will not be allowed to queue up in our kiss and go lane until the conclusion of the parade (3:40)
Costume guidelines:
- Students may wear their costumes the entire day if they are comfortable, easy to work in, and sturdy enough to last the day.
- Weapons (swords, etc) are never allowed in school
- Students must wear a face mask while in school (during the parade, masks may be removed)
- Costume masks do NOT eliminate the need for a face covering unless they are cloth and completely cover the mouth and nose. Costume masks may be worn for the parade only.
- If the student will be changing into their costume before the party/parade, they must be able to do so without teacher/adult assistance.
Discovery Program Application Process
The application process for the Discovery Program will open Monday, October 19. Applications are due December 4, 2020. The Discovery Program is designed for highly advanced gifted learners in grades 2 - 6 whose needs will be best met in a center based program.

Update Your Child’s Learning Preference for Second Semester
Deadline: Sunday, November 1 at 11:59 p.m.
Douglas County School District (DCSD) families who wish to change their child’s learning preference (i.e. Hybrid/In-Person to eLearning or vice versa) for the second semester can do so between Friday, October 23 and Sunday, November 1. Changes to learning preferences will become effective in January 2021 and continue through the end of the 2020-2021 school year. The deadline to make changes is Sunday, November 1 at 11:59 p.m.
If you wish to continue with your child’s current learning preference, you do not need to complete the Learning Preference Update process for the second semester.
If your child attends a DCSD preschool or a DCSD charter school, please contact your school directly to inquire about whether learning preferences changes can be made.
How to Update Learning Preferences:
- Go to the EngagED Portal and select Learning Preference Update
- Select the Hybrid Learning/In-Person Learning Preference or 100% eLearning Preference for Your Student(s) for second semester (changes will be effective January 2021 through the end of the 2020-2021 school year).
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT LEARNING PREFERENCE OPTIONS:
100% eLearning
Students enrolled in the eLearning preference will participate in a combination of synchronous (live) and asynchronous (pre-recorded/independent) learning five days per week. Students enrolled in this option for second semester will remain in eLearning through the end of the 2020-2021 school year.
Hybrid Learning/In-Person Learning*
In the current, fluid environment of COVID, it’s important for families to understand that students enrolled in the Hybrid Learning/In-Person Learning option could fluctuate to include, but not be limited to, the following scenarios depending on current COVID-19 data (see DCSD Decision Dashboard).
- 100% In-Person Learning: in-person learning five days a week (DCSD elementary schools are currently in this environment).
- Hybrid Learning: students alternate between two days of in-person learning, two days of asynchronous (independent) virtual learning, and one day of live/synchronous virtual learning (DCSD middle and high schools are currently in this environment).
- Remote Learning: In the case of a COVID exposure at a school, students may be subject to quarantine, which would result in a temporary move to remote/virtual learning for approximately 14 days. In the case of a public health order, such as the Stay-at-Home orders last spring, all students could be transitioned to 100% remote learning for an undetermined period of time.
TRANSPORTATION
The capacity on DCSD buses remains limited. Our full-sized buses are allowed a maximum of 24 students per the Tri-County Health Department. Students are required to wear a face covering while on the bus, and must sit one per seat. This limitation means that transportation eligibility will continue to be offered only to students who attend their assigned neighborhood school, and for elementary school students who live more than 2.5 miles from school, and for middle and high school students who live more than 5 miles from school. If you believe your student is eligible for transportation, or if you have questions, please contact the DCSD Transportation Department.
